Policy and Procedures

Once you have made an enquiry to use my services, we will then arrange a first visit to my home to discuss Toddler Town’s policies and procedures which are listed below. You will also receive a welcome booklet and a link to the policies and procedures in full detail for you to read through.

We will then arrange a second visit to go through our contract, start date, times, menu, activities, likes/dislikes etc.

These policies and procedures are in place to maintain the duty of care I have to your child, and also to have a clear communication relationship when agreeing to the contract for both parties, parents and childminder.

Health and Safety

I encourage children to learn about personal hygiene through a daily routine, and children will be asked to wash their hands before and after eating, after using the toilet and when they have been outside.

Parents are asked to keep their children at home if they have any infections and to inform me of the nature of it, so illness is kept to a minimum. Children who have been vomiting or have had diarrhoea are unable to attend until at least 24 hours has passed since the last attack.

Written permission has to be obtained before I can administer any medicines. This will then be recorded in a book with parent's signature acknowledging the entry. Written parental consent is obtained at the initial onset of placement to seek any necessary emergency medical treatment that may be needed in the future.

We are a non- smoking household.

When cooking for or with children as an activity, I will ensure that the ingredients are healthy and wholesome, thus promoting and extending the children's understanding of a well-balanced diet. All food is hygienically stored, prepared and served.

Children will have the opportunity to play in the fresh air throughout the year, either in my own rear garden or at local parks etc.

My premises, toys and equipment are cleaned regularly and toilets are cleaned daily and changing mats cleaned after use.

I have taken the necessary steps to ensure that all hazards to children on my premises, both inside and outside, are minimised and I have an accident book for incidents to be recorded and signed by parents.

I have a full drivers licence and appropriate business use insurance/MOT certificates (all of which can be seen). Parents have to sign a consent form to allow me to transport their children in my car.

I have Royal and Sun Alliance Public Liability Insurance.

My house has been inspected and has passed the safety standards which allow me to become a registered childminder.

My premises are secure and children are not able to leave unsupervised. Children will be under my supervision at all times.

I have smoke and carbon monoxide detectors on all floors, and a fire blanket and extinguishers in the kitchen.

Equipment and toys are frequently checked and any dangerous items repaired or discarded. All dangerous materials, including medicines and cleaning substances are stored out of reach.

Children do not have access to any cupboards storing hazardous materials.

In the event of an accident happening with children in my care, I will assess the situation and take the necessary steps. I will always inform the parents of any accidents from minor to serious and this will also always be logged.

Further information is available in the policy and procedures document which you will receive after our first visit.
